THE STORY

About five years ago, in a dark, dank meeting room, a group of adults and children were gathered, speaking quietly amongst themselves.  Nobody knew what would happen, nobody knew what to expect, for nobody they knew had ever done anything like what they were about to do.  It was here, in this dark room that Troop 811 was born. It started with about ten boys and their parents, and has now grown to over 43 scouts, and the number is still rising steadily.  The Troop takes pride in instilling traditional values into the hearts of young men, striving to create the leaders of tomorrow.

THE TROOP

Troop 811 is a relatively new troop to South Florida Council's Hurricane District. The Troop is sponsored by Arch Bishop Colman Carroll High School. The School Principal is one of our biggest supporters and is always ready to help the Scouts and their families in any way possible.

The Troop is guided by the Scoutmaster, Committee Chairman, and volunteer parents serving as Assistant Scoutmasters and members of the Troop Committee. Their job is to make sure Troop 811 is a boy-run Troop, and that the boys have all the resources necessary to put on a quality program.

Troop meetings are every Thursday evening, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, under the patio area at Calusa Elementary. During the meetings, the Scouts work towards advancements, work on merit badges, plan campouts, and participate in Troop activities. All boys are expected to report to the meetings in full Class A. A Class B uniform, which consists of a Troop 811 hat and a Troop 811 T-shirt worn with green shorts, is required for activities during campouts and service projects.

The Patrols are designed to ease the boys into positions of leadership and responsibility on a lower level, before being asked to serve as a Troop Leader and Patrol Leader. The Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leaders are elected by the boys. The Assistant Patrol Leaders are then selected by the Patrol Leaders, with the guidance of the Scoutmaster. Other Troop positions are appointed by the Senior Patrol Leaders, and they include Quartermaster, Librarian, Historian, Chaplain, and Scribe.

The Troop schedule is planned by the Patrol Leader's Council (PLC). The PLC consists of each Patrol Leader, the Senior Patrol Leader, the Senior Patrol Leader-elect, the Quartermaster General, the Camping Director, the Scoutmaster, and the Scribe. The PLC meets at least once a month.

Troop 811 is always prepared to provide service to the community. Community Service Projects are planned by the PLC and are encouraged. The Scouts need the community service projects for advancements and character development.
